1.Presentation
Sankūkai karate (三空会 – Japanese) is a style of karate founded by Yoshinao Nanbu in 1971. It was created with combining of principles and techniques of aikido, judo, shito ryu karate and shukokai karate. Its symbol is three circles (two red, one white) which represent the Earth, Moon and Sun.

2. History
Sankukai karate was invented by Yoshinao Nanbu, he  was born in 1943 in Japan. At age five he started to train in judo and kendo and later he trained in aikido and karate under Sensei Someko. At eighteen, he started to train under Chōjirō Tani. Following his successes in Japan, in 1964 he went to France by the invitation of the French karate master Henry Plée where he first got the idea to form his own style. Then in 1968 he went back to Japan and solidified his idea. In 1971 he demonstrated his style for the first time in France, calling it Sankūkai. There he was entrusted with the task of spreading Shukokai in Europe. After a few years, judging his task complete, he founded the system of Sankukai (still practised today).

3. Techniques

Sankukai karate has a ranking system similar to other karate styles. Beginners have a white belt and when they have taken enough classes, they can apply for examination for a higher belt rank. School belts are called kyū, and master belts are called dan.

Sankukai karate is based upon four concepts: breathing, energy manipulation, gymnastics and spirit/ mental strength. The techniques are a combination of traditional techniques from Japanese martial arts(aikido, judo, shito ryu karate and shukokai karate) and Master Nanbu's own philosophy. They are based on movements and patterns in nature, and are intended to work as a system to strengthen the body, as well as prevent many modern-day illnesses.
